Healthy.io‘s ACR (albumin-creatinine ratio) ‘Adherence as a Service’ enables people to test their urine at home using a test kit and accompanying app. The testing kit enables the measurement of 10 parameters, indicating a range of infections, chronic illnesses, and pregnancy-related complications.
The service improved adherence to ACR testing from 0% to 79% in consented patients with type 1 diabetes who had been offered the traditional model of care multiple times but did not attend. This helped identify abnormal ACR in 18% of the patients that tested.
An abnormal ACR test is an independent risk factor for both cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease (CKD). ACR testing is one of the worst performing of NICE recommended diabetes care processes, and is more frequently missed in people with type 1 diabetes than people with type 2.
Eastern AHSN is working with Norfolk and Waveney and Suffolk and North Essex health systems to pilot the use of Healthy.io. This also includes the establishment of a community of practice.
